Ukraine is one of the oldest higher educational establishments of Ukraine. Founded in 1805 as the Medical Faculty of the Kharkiv University it was later renamed in Kharkiv Medical Institute and Kharkiv State Medical University and presently it is Kharkiv National Medical University - KNMU.

Kharkiv National Medical University is the best medical university in Ukraine for international students to study medicine in Ukraine. Historically, our University was the top medical educational institution in Ukraine. The Degree of MBBS (MD - General Medicine, BDS - Dentistry, Pharmacy,  Nursing) of Kharkov National Medical University is prestigious and it is recognized all over the world.
International students may study medicine in English or Russian optionally. Practical training start from the 3rd year and is arranged at municipal hospitals and clinics of Kharkiv city. Students examine patients, give urgent aid, fill case histories with their subsequent analysis, work at X-ray rooms, clinical and biochemical laboratories.
Since 1951 the University has been training doctors for different countries of Europe, Asia, Africa. Presently more 4600 foreign citizens study at KNMU (Medical / Dentistry / Pharmacy Faculties, and PG course). More than 7,500 international students graduated from KNMU since 1951. Among former graduates of the University there are ministers and members of parliaments in various countries, outstanding scientists and famous specialists who founded their own clinics abroad.

There are following courses taught at Kyiv Medical University:
  • General Medicine     – 6 years (English medium 3500 USD / Russian medium 2500 USD)
  • Dentistry                – 5 years (English medium 3800 USD / Russian medium 2600 USD)
  • Pharmacy                – 5 years (English medium 3100 USD)
  • Premedical Course*  – 1 year  (Language course 1200 USD)
International students may study Medicine (MD, MBBS) at Kyiv Medical University starting from the 1st year, immediately on arrival. The course is taught in English medium (or optionally Russian medium).
* Those international students, wishing to study Dentistry, General Medicine or Pharmacy in Russian should firstly pass Foundation (Preparatory course), where main disciplines are taught, and Russian as the main subject. Premedical course is opened for admission till the end of December, which makes it rather flexible to register and study.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is secured for each and every student and it is guaranteed shifting immediately on arrival. Fully renovated hostels of the University provide all range of services and facilities in order to make students life comfort and safe. Students feel enjoying time for studies and rest, and there is no need of any reservation to for accommodation.

Admissions requirements

We select applicants with demonstrated academic excellence and strong potential to become a doctor. Applicants must meet all of the MD Program admission requirements. There are different academic requirements, but before all we check for science subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics grades as well as English qualifications.
The age requirements for the applicants eligible for admission are between 16 and 25 years old.
All students accepted into the program must have sufficient financial background as there is no regular scholarships, regardless of nationality. As an international student, you will pay international fees. This annual fee is blended, and adds up to the total cost of six years. Your tuition remains the same for all years that you are in the program.

Application process

In order to apply international application should contact admission department by
  • secondary school completion certificate
  • international passport or birth certificate
The scanned documents are to be sent by email for evaluation of eligibility for further admission confirmation and guidance in registering to the University. In case of eligibility, the student will be granted with ADMISSION CONFIRMATION LETTER along with other details of enrollment.
The next step for the application is to apply for INVITATION LETTER, which is unique document issued by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and must be delivered to the applicant home address for student visa application at the Embassy of Ukraine

Important application dates

There is 1 intake per year: September - October entrance session, with the deadlines 30th October. Those are the dates for students must arrive to the University, yet we strongly recommend international applicants to start the process in advance as there time consuming procedures of invitation issuance and visa application to be approved by the Embassy of Ukraine.
Note also Premedical course is opened round a year, as alternative option for international student who missed the deadline for the main studies or for those who need to study local language.

Entering Ukraine:

All the international students must have student visa approved by the Embassy of Ukraine.
Although each Embassy has specific requirements and we recommend to contact the consular individually, students should start with general documents necessary for visa application:
  • invitation letter - original and copy
  • international passport – original and notary translated in Ukrainian– 3 samples
  • birth certificate - originals, notary translated in Ukrainian – 1 sample
  • education certificates – original and notary translated in Ukrainian – 3 samples
  • medical and HIV / AIDS certificates and notary translated in Ukrainian – 1 sample
  • passport size photo 3,5×4 – 20 pictures
  • flight ticket reservation
  • medical insurance - original and copy
  • application fee - payment slip and copy
  • visa application form filled
